Garden tractor: how to choose the best

There are many models of garden tractors. You can easily choose the equipment according to your expectations and financial possibilities. The more grass, the faster a self-propelled mower you should choose. The three-cylinder engine will be better here, although more expensive than others. Its advantage is expressed in high power, durability and reliability. Garden tractors equipped with it often have all-wheel drive, which you will quickly appreciate when your property is not flat as a table. For a smaller plot, a single-cylinder engine with about 15 HP is enough.
The cutting width can also be smaller, which translates into work efficiency. The smallest is 60 cm. Such above 120 cm will be more suitable for large lawns. In addition to the width, the number of knives for cutting grass also affects the performance. The bigger the better, of course. The plot size should also affect the tank capacity. When this is small - all you need is about 6-10 liters. When you have a large field of grass to mow, buy a garden tractor with a 30-40 liter tank. You would have to fill a much smaller tank along the way. Consider the mulching function. It consists in fragmentation of cut grass and its even distribution. It is very beneficial for the lawn. When you can afford a certain amount of comfort, buy a garden tractor with a comfortable leather seat, equipped with a gearbox for gear shifting, enriched with a number of additional accessories, such as headlights, automatic engine stop switch responding to leaving the seat, power steering, wheels that do not damage the lawn.

Garden tractor: additional functions

When looking for the most suitable garden tractor it is worth to look at its additional equipment. The more expensive models come with several accessories that significantly expand their range of possibilities. The snow plow is noteworthy. Thanks to it, in the winter months the machine will not be stuck in the garage, it will only help you remove snowdrifts from paths and driveways. A good complement to the plow is a sandblaster - a mechanical device that evenly spreads sand or road salt (although it has recently been moving away). In winter, a snowblower in the form of a rotating brush will be useful, coping well with a small layer of loose snow. For a garden tractor you can also buy a trailer, lawn care devices - a scarifier or aerator, and even a seed drill.

Rules for using a garden tractor

After each mowing, the garden tractor should be rinsed briefly, thoroughly cleaned and the knives washed. It is also worth covering the tractor with liquid to prevent grass from sticking.
Change the oil once a season and keep an eye on its level, just like a car.
If the grass tractor has a gasoline engine, make sure that gasoline loses its properties after about 2 months.
At the end of the mowing season, the fuel tank should be emptied and the engine started until the fuel runs out. Tractors should be garaged or at least covered with a winter cover.
Be careful! Lateral discharge can fire hard objects with great force. In addition, for hearing protection it is worth using silencing headphones.
